About

A kitchen on Calder Street

We opened Ostro in 2019 with fresh pasta, whole fish and vegetables from the Saturday market. Marta Ilić runs the kitchen, and Owen Pradhan looks after the room.

Ostro is a forty-seat neighborhood restaurant at 41 Calder Street, Northside. Marta Ilić owns the restaurant and leads the kitchen, with Owen Pradhan managing the room and bar.

We opened in 2019. Fresh pasta, whole fish and market vegetables have been the center of the menu since the first service.

We review the menu each week after the Saturday market. A tomato salad stays while the fruit is ripe; squash and roots take its place as the stalls change. The wine list stays short and leans toward Italian grapes and regions.

The tall front room has a pendant light and curtained glass doors. There are forty dining seats in all, including six at the bar kept for walk-ins, where you can eat the full menu.

The people we work with

  • Marta Ilić, chef and owner

Marta makes the pasta dough each afternoon and writes the menu after the Saturday market. She cooks at the stove during dinner and checks every sauce before service.

  • Owen Pradhan, general manager

Owen runs the dining room and keeps the wine list short. He handles bookings, answers dietary questions with the kitchen and organizes private dinners.

  • Hollis Farm, vegetables

Hollis Farm brings roots, leaves and ripe tomatoes to the Saturday market. We buy what is ready that week and change the sides when a crop finishes.

  • Calder Fish Co-op, fish

Calder Fish Co-op tells us what has landed before we place the morning order. Whole fish and shellfish arrive on ice, and we check them before the kitchen starts prep.
